kannivalism is back!

The band kannivalism has been on hiatus for more than year, stopping activities in January 2008. Cause? Ryo is mental. Really, he has had adjustment disorder. Now that he is all better the band is back and with a new member.

The band held their first press conference in over a year. This is Ryo’s first appearance since he was hospitalized and told everyone he is fine and sane.

In addition, they’ve added a new drummer, Mitsuya. They have already made their comeback single, “life is“, available on chaku-uta on 9/9. If that wasn’t a change, how about this? Guitarist, Kei, mentioned that the band wants to change their name to, get this, ‘ism‘. They haven’t convinced the staff yet but the band really wants to change the name.

I suppose the changes are because of the changes Ryo has had to go through. I guess this being their comeback stage, they want to comeback in a better light? I won’t lie, I have listened to kannivalism a whole 4-5 times in the past. They don’t stand out in my opinion. What does stand out is that Ryo is mental, and that is awesome. Why? Because unlike most vk rock bands in Japan, a majority of the members rarely admit they have mental problems (i.e. Kyo of Dir en grey). So I applaud Ryo for passing the 5 stages, now if only the rest of the bands in the scene can pass stage 1 (denial), I think the scene would be a little bit better.
