First Super Junior, now SHINee…

It was one thing for one SME idol group Super Junior to jack Lyle’s (two) choreo’s … now another idol group, SHINee (one I like) has done it…

This is interesting. My friend Sam from North Carolina (raise up, take your shirt off, spin it like a helicopter) brought it to my attention.  This  video is of a Korean boy band doing my disturbia choreography to the song “just dance” by Lady GaGa. This was probably taken from our WOD Pomona video. You can see the actual choreography from that video here (starts at 3min)

This whole thing kind of boggles my mind. How can the “choreographer” take pride in their work knowing it isn’t really theirs? I mean congrats you copied the choreography dead on, but that’s about all you really did. I bet it would have been easier to come up with simple yet affective two steps for these “talented” dancers than taking the time to learn my routine off of youtube anyway. If you like the choreography that much then why not do it to the song it was intended for? There was a lot of thought put into the movements that directly correlated to the actual song. Now the choreography means nothing at all. I mean sure it gets the job done but it’s just movement now. No meaning, no depth, no substance, just movement. From the looks of things they have a pretty big budget so why not just ask me to do something for the artist. I would be more than happy and being that i am not considered a big name i would have probably been cheaper than anyone else.

In the end there is little to no chance at all of me getting compensation let alone any credit for this. It just sucks that those who take the time, effort and hard work to create can go over looked by artist and labels. In the end we are small fish in their pond and as of now there is little we can do about it. Thank God for Movement Lifestyle…

Octoberfest is not just about beer!

It’s all about the boy bands.

So with all the girl groups out in Korea, it looks like this month they’re tossing the PMS out and bringing the testosterone in.

Four groups and one solo artist will be releasing new songs. In which three of the five are set to make their debut and compete for the best male artist of the month (in our books).

tae yang

First up, Tae Yang. One of the lead vocals of Big Bang; made his solo debut last year with a number one selling mini album “HOT“, and comes back with a new digital single called “Where U At.”  The song is said to be about Tae Yang finding his true love. While he has stated that he has never had a girlfriend, Tae Yang I’m sure you won’t have a problem finding any applicants, it’s the interview process that’s going to be a b!#$h.

shinee

Second we have SHINee, releasing their third mini album, “2009, Year of Us” on 10/9. They just finished promotions in Japan for their second mini album, “Romeo“, and are finally resuming activities in Korea. You know with a title like “2009, Year of Us“, they may not be far off seeing as how DBSK will be going on hiatus for a bit.  Coincidence? I think not. At least SME has some ‘new blood’ to fall back on and slave away.

Now we come to the three newbies into the scene.

B2ST

First up we have B2ST aka Boys 2 Search the Top. Okay really is that name necessary? B2ST is pronounced “Beast”, but when I see the name I want to say “Best” or “Backstreet”. This is a six member group that has some not-so-new members to the music scene. Jang Jyun Seung auditioned for Big Bang, Yoon Doo Joon auditioned for One Day, both obviously were eliminated. AJ made a previous solo debut and Poppin’ Dragon used to belong to a boy band called Xing. The last two members, Yang Yo Seob and Son Dong Woon are new to the scene. Let’s hope they don’t choke and that their sunbae’s are helping them out.

child of empire

Second is Child of Empire. This group has nine members (NEWS anyone?). They are under Star Empire Entertainment and already have people buzzin’. The group is not set to make an official debut until 11/28, but from September to November the group will do a nationwide guerilla concerts.

mblaq_poster

Last and not least is Rain’s boy band MBLAQ (Music Boys Live in Absolute Quality). I think Rain stayed way to long in the states to come up with a wack name like that. I feel like he ripped off B2K or Blackstreet. Rain hand picked these boys and trained them himself. So they better be good, because if not, well that just goes to show you what kind of taste he’s got now don’t it? He did release a teaser poster of the group. Can we say cover of Qr, Unzipped and Instinct Magazines? Sorry, but you can not look at that photo and not think that.

With all these groups coming out, I personally look forward to Tae Yang and Child of Empire. Why? Because when I see that photo of them, I feel like breaking out into a commercial. That photo looks like an ad for a really nice clothing store.

KARA in Thailand

kara

On 2ch, someone posted some links of KARA‘s rehearsal and live in Thailand. Along with a video of SHINee in Thailand as well. They arrived on 9/16 for the Thai-Korea concert. KARA, SHINee, and Ryan represented Korea for this friendly gathering. To represent Thailand, Golf&Mike also performed. If you don’t know Golf&Mike, they are part of Johnny’s in Japan. They had a side unit with NEWSYamapi to form the group GYM.

Don’t forget that KARA is also going to make their debut in Japan soon too.

Will go you cha-cha-cha for LA chA TA?

f(x)

Unlike most fans (99.9% of them), I didn’t have any expectations of f(x) (probably because I’m not a fan of SM groups). The teaser MV reminded me of SHINee and when they announced this group, I knew this was in retaliation to 2NE1.

Why? SNSD failed to beat out 2NE1 how many times? With this group and their style, you can’t tell me I’m wrong when I say, “2NE1 much?” The concept, style and timing are all too perfect.

How will SM beat out YG? This is how. When you watch the MV, they are the female version of SHINee. Much like how 2NE1 is the female version of Big Bang (although I disagree).  Don’t get me wrong, I really like f(x), they’re not SNSD. They can dance and most of all they aren’t based off of looks (like their seniors).

While you can go on many K-Pop blogs and find the history of this group, I’m not going to post that. I will say though, how stereo typical to put the Chinese-American as the rapper. Why do they have to make her look like a guy? Amber looks like she belongs in SHINee. I could have sworn I seen one of her outfits on Key. Oh look they did, poor Amber, she got recycled clothes. All they did was change the tank top, if you can’t see the similarities, I really can’t help you there.

key shinee amber f(x)

The way they styled her makes f(x) look like 1 guy and 4 girls. Now wouldn’t that be a scandal?

Anyways, have fun watching this MV, I know I do.  How long do you think before we’ll start seeing copy dances on YouTube? I give it another 30 minutes or so, if they’re not already up.

It’s wrex n f(x)!

fx

SM Entertainment released a teaser of their new girl group that will debut in September called, f(x).  There was speculations that Jessica’s (SNSD) sister was in the group. Well SME released the members of this so-called “Asian Pop Dance Group”.

“The ‘x‘ in ‘f(x)‘ is like a variable, where if the ‘x‘ changes, the result will be different. Which correlates to the members diverse skills and backgrounds, which will allow them to not only flourish in Korea, but by changing their x-factor or variable, they will also succeed overseas – as that is the plan. In addition, the ‘f‘ stands for ‘flower‘, and the ‘x‘ stands for the female chromosome ‘xx‘. And like a flower, they will blossom and become hot icons to represent Asia as the top “Asian Pop Dance Group.” (allkpop)

Photo’s and information on the girls are out and everyone but non-sme fans are excited about them.

Honestly, they’re the female version of SHINee and the counter to 2NE1. Notice how the dance to “LACHATA” is almost like SHINee‘s “Replay” and most likely choreographed by Rino. I think SME just pulled a YG; trying to counter act YG’s pull, since 2NE1 pretty much made SNSD old news, and fast.

SHINee goes to Japan

shinee_juliet1

…but not physically… just yet. SHINee will release their 1st major debut album in Japan on 7/29 through Rythem Zone (avex trax). They are releasing a Japanese version of their 2nd album, “ROMEO” and will include some goodies. The CD includes a CD-sized jacket card and booklet, and if you’re lucky to get the first press, you will receive 1 of 6 cards.

Title: Romeo
Cat# RZCD-46284
Release Date: 2009.7.29
Tracks:
1. TALK TO YOU
2. JULIETTE
3. HIT ME
4. SENORITA
5. PLEASE,DON’T GO
6. ROMEO+JULIETTE

It was only a matter of time before SM debuted SHINee in Japan. It’s kind of sad though that they haven’t had SNSD release anything there. Oh well, I hope SHINee goes to Japan soon so they can show them Johnny’s boys how to do it.
