A’st1 what?

a'st1

So, was on 2ch in the w-inds. section, and someone posted this PV of this South Korean group, A’st1 (Asia star number 1). Why was this mentioned? Well according to netizen’s on there, one of the members Tomo is a die-hard fan of w-inds.* They are on the same label as SS501, DSP Entertainment.

For some strange reason, I kind of like this group better than SS501 after hearing this song. Everything about this song and PV scream J-Pop, just in Korean. If you watch it, I think you’ll know what I’m talking about.

I don’t know much other than there is one half Japanese/Korean member named Tomo, who also is the oldest, and a Chinese member, Hy Ming. That and they apparently challenged Super Junior when they first debuted last year and ate them words, because they are not doing anything now. But at least they don’t look half bad and they sound decent. I can’t listen to Super Junior, they remind me of Morning Musume, just guys and well we all know the truth about Morning Musume.

I do feel a bit sad for them, because they’ve only released one single, and they get no attention. DSP puts all their efforts into SS501 and KARA.

They’re performance on MNet with their debut song, “1.2.3.4. Back

7 divided by 5 equals??

SS501

You do the math that way SS501 doesn’t end up pulling a DBSK.

After a successful press conference in Malaysia, and announcing to their fans that they hope to do a concert as early as December or January, SS501 became the product of attention. It was like eBay, but the prizes are actual humans. Three companies performed a bidding war, on who will win the rights to SS501’s concert in Malaysia. The winning company goes to Marctensia, with a final bid of 7 figures. In layman terms, this means that they are paying DSP around $100K-$9,999,999, so to speak. I don’t know if this is in RM or USD, but let’s make a safe assumption and hope its in RM and not USD, because really SS501 isn’t even worth that much.

This is also the same asking price as famous Chinese singer, Jay Chou.

What does the 7 figure cover? Well aside from the 100 or so entourage, it pays for venue, lighting, import fees and payment to the group itself we hope.

With Malaysia just being added to their “SS501 ASIA TOUR PERSONA 2009”, venue, tickets and date and time have yet to be determined. Marctensia just got their schedule, so give them about 1 to 4 weeks to come up with the battle plan. It’s all about timing and place.

Honestly, I’m just hoping they go with a venue that has awesome sound quality. Because with that much at stake, you’d hope the company can afford excellent sound and lighting.

Good luck SS501, we hope you get at least 1 figure each of that 7 figure that’s being paid to your company. We wouldn’t want you pull a DBSK on us now would we?

[UPDATE] SS501s’ “Double Date”

Remember this?

SS501 date

When Hong Kong tabloids outted Hyun Joong and Young Saeng for spending time with two ladies and calling it a secret getaway? Well it’s not what everyone the Hong Kong media thought (yeah right).

DSP said, “They just went on vacation with childhood friends.

What fans saw was two girls with their favorite stars, but in reality the story they’re telling everyone is that they went on vacation with 8 friends. After SS501‘s Nippon Budokan concert, the group met up with some of their old friends from school; they all went to Hong Kong for a private vacation.

We didn’t see the problem in them taking a private vacation“, stated DSP.

Honestly, I’m kind of sad that it was just a girlfriend. I think it was a set up so people would pay attention them more. SS501 has been lacking in the marketing department. They did a whole Asia tour, and the news has just been about YG and SM. I think DSP just wants some love, so they set this up. They could just be friends, but what is the fun in that?

Want to out-do the rest of them DSP? Give us some juicy news, like Hyun Joong is a daddy, or Saeng is a transvestite or something. I’m sure that type of news will out do anything SM and YG do. Hell, it’d out do anything G-Dragon does, and that’s big.

A collection KARA SS501

all-my-love ss501

SS501 will release a new 3-disc DVD, MBC Collection. Each DVD will contain rare footage, of never before scenes from the boys. Disc1 is a documentary of their history, disc 2 shows performance footage and disc 3 will reveal private footage of their travel to Thailand, fan event footage, interview with the members, etc. This collections also includes a 100-page deluxe photobook. (Pre-order at CDJ)

The DVD will be out on 11/25 through Universal Music Japan (UMJ). Coincidentaly the same Japanese label as Big Bang.  I’m not sure if they changed labels in Japan, because their label in Japan has been Pony Canyon. This might have something to do with KARA making their debut in Japan later this year.

kara

If they did change managements in Japan, I can’t help but think it’s because UMJ has done so well with Big Bang. SS501 hasn’t received that type of promotion in Japan and they’ve been there for over a year.

DSP Entertaiment said, “KARA’s Japanese management feels KARA has huge potential in Japan and we will begin full on promotions as originally planned.

It’s said that many of the industry professionals believe that KARA has the most potential of all girl groups in Korea. Which is probably true; they fit Japan’s image very well for idol groups. Yes I said idol, because that’s what they will be classfied as in Japan. Also, how much you want to bet that their music will be the epitomy of J-Pop and go against acts such as SPEED and MAX? They’ve been needing competition for quite some time, it looks like Korea is the place that can bring in some game.

Good luck to them, they will need it, especially in that Japan.

note: If you’re wondering about the title of this post, “kara” means “from” in Japanese.

Incheon Music Festival 2009

incheon music festival

SM TOWN isn’t the only big thing not happening. Get ready for the Incheon Music Festival on 8/22. Check out the artist line-up: Rain, Super Junior, F.T. Island, SS501, M, MC Mong, 2PM, Girl’s Generation, Chae Yeon, KARA, Lee Jung Hyun and other artists.

I want to go to this, if I was in Korea, I would so go! I think everyone’s fine except the SM artists. Maybe because SM Town’s concert’s is on hold they needed to put them to work on something else??

Photo 501

all-my-love

Not just along with their Asia Tour, SS501 will release a photo book and DVD next week called, “Photo 501”. This “Special Kit” includes postcards book (20 cards), two mobile photo straps, original stamp with ink, original bag (400mm x 300mm x 100m), five ballpoint pens, bonus DVD featuing their activity in Japan, making-of footage, and more.

Whilst I’m not a fan of this group, because to be honest I haven’t really heard anything other than the BBF OST, I still like HyunJoong.  Besides look at all the goodies you get for a mere $92! Plus it’s a 2-disc DVD, so it’s not like you’re actually getting ripped off.  So go on CLICK HERE, you know you want the goodies.
